Devon Boone (San Diego, CA)
Degree: Social Work
I am currently pursuing my Masters degree at San Diego State University in Social Work along with my Pupil Personnel Services Credential and Certificate in Social Work Administration. My goal is to work with at-risk youth in the school systems as a School Social Worker and continue to grow in my profession to one day become a Program Director for my own youth intervention program.
Nigel Burton (San Diego, CA)
Degree: Mass Communication & Journalism
I come from a very loving, supportive, selfless family which has shaped me to be very spiritual, and family oriented. I live to spread God's love & positivity to people. I am the creator & CEO of my own clothing brand that I started my last year of college, called "JustBeDope" and that is my current career, and passion.
One of the challenges of growing up in Compton was trying to become the first male in my family to attain a college education and earn my degree. By God's will I managed to achieve my goal of earning my Bachelor's in Sports Medicine with cum laude honors. Now I have a sports medicine internship with the WNBA's LA Sparks. I anticipate going back to school and earning my Masters in Sports Psychology in Fall of 2015. My future goal is to become a Sports Doctor with professional sports.
As a first generation college student, I had to find my path and learn the ropes of college on ny own. During my journey in college, my social consciousness and knowledge of the African American condition was broadened. I strive to continue ONYx's mission through the community from which I come from, South Central Los Angeles. I plan on being a creative director of a design firm or advertising agency and ultimately want to own my own clothing & sneaker boutique.
Michael Gallego (Los Angeles, CA)
Degree: Kinesiology
Most people call me Big Mike. Including my degree in Kinesiology, I earned a certificate in Recreation Administration. I played on the Fresno State rugby team, I did a lot of Athletic training hours, internship hours, and am very involved in the community. My main goal in life is to become a Successful Athletic Director at a high school or junior college.
Lekan Maraiyesa (San Diego, Ca) Degree: Communication
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, I was raised in a part of San Diego where the chances of me going to jail was higher than me going to college. Well look at me now! I'm a college graduate pursing my Masters in International Marketing in Boston, Massachusetts. After my Masters, I plan on going to law school and hopefully working for a company that deals internationally. I don't let people dictate my future, and I plan on keeping it like that!
